Tips to Ace Middle School
Being a Middle Schooler
Upon entering middle school there is a lot of pressure to do well and to fit in. As a previous middle school teacher I can tell you a lot about my students that they probably don't even know about themselves. We spend a great deal of time with these kids and know them on a different level than most of the parents and friends. As a middle school teacher I could tell the kids that were struggling socially, emotionally, had trouble had home, just wanted to fit in, was smart but didn't want their friends to know, was really struggling academically but brushed it off so their friends didn't think they were dumb.
The Most Important Thing to Know
You Live Through It
There is a Taylor Swift song about high school that always makes me wish I had known this back then. You will survive the tortures of middle school and high school. I wish someone had told me that when I was a kid, given me the strength to be strong enough to not care what others think, to believe in myself, and to be the person I wanted to be without the pressure to fit in.
Study Hard, Work Hard
Your job is to be a student. This is your only job. It is a job in order to succeed to need to do everything possible to learn and do well in school. School is your number 1 priority, it comes before sports, clubs, social life, or anything else. You have no excuse for not doing your homework and not spending as much times as possible on your school work.
Write it down!
Your teachers give you information and you need to write it down!
Due dates, assignments, and details need to be written down somewhere important like an assignment notebook. If you don't have one, then you need to get one. A calendar with places to write due dates and assignments.
Organize yourself and become the ruler of your grades. Teacher don't give you grades, you earn them.
If you are stuck, ask for help!
Your teachers want to help you. True Story. 98% of teachers are teaching because they want to see their students succeed, don't let the bad teachers out their taint your thoughts. That being said teacher have lives and families too and aren't available for you 24 hours a day. Set up a day and time to meet with a teacher that you need to help you. Afraid of meeting with your teacher one on one (most teachers are afraid of that too) ask to meet in the school library.
It is only going to get harder
High School is harder than middle school but your teachers are trying to prepare you for it now. Remember to prioritize the things that need to be done first. Don't let social aspects rule your life. Be strong, confident, be likeable, be nice, and treat others as you would want to be treated.
